The term mechanics describes the basic activities in the game and the rules that govern them

Examples:

  • dealing, betting, and calling in poker.
  • moving around the game board, buying property, and collecting rent from other players in Monopoly
  • ranged & melee attacks, grapples, attack windups, attack cooldowns, health bars in Tekken
